I would be interested in seeing pictures of the barrel out of the stock (remember to remove the rear sight first and slide the hand guard forward) especially around the front of the rear sight. All 1898 carbines started life with the short forend stock and should show signs of wear and fading where ...

I agree that these are both nice examples in very fine condition. I have not been actively buying for a while and realize that prices go up. It is my personal opinion that both rifles are least $1000 over priced, which could be why they have been listed for awhile

Most likely a VFW, American Legion return. Modified by the individual Post to be more handy as a parade/color guard rifle.
